Bio

Hello! I am a poet and a scientist living in central California with my wife, two kids, and five four chickens. I love my family more than poems or science, but you won’t find pics of their faces here. I don’t care about the chickens’ privacy though.

My poetry has won the Emerging Writers Award from Boulevard and has been nominated for the Best of the Net and Pushcart Prizes I only recently began writing again after a 20+ year silence of thinking the world will still twirl without poetry. Maybe the world will, but I won’t.

By day, I’m the principal investigator of a government science lab and serve as an Associate Adjunct Professor at the University of California-Davis where I earned my PhD in Nutritional Biology. I also have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at MIT (where I also studied poetry!). I have authored over 60 peer-reviewed scientific articles that have been collectively cited ~7000 times. That sounds like a lot, but it’s a normal amount for a productive scientist. This website is about poetry, not science, but both fields are about discovery.

I write poetry to discover emotional truth.
